Samsung LN22A450 22-Inch 720p LCD HDTV, Black tv reviews

I always read customer reviews before purchasing a product, and before I bought this Samsung TV, I looked at all customer reviews for all 22" flat screen TVs. I own another small Samsung and it works very well in the kitchen. What I liked most about it was the clear picture and the footprint and how little space it occupied, so I decided that another Samsung would be a good choice. Ignoring the warning echos in other reviews, I thought this would be the ideal TV.

What other reviewers mentioned was absoutely on target. Information about the channel or anything else is so small and stays on the screen so briefly, that it is almost impossible to read. Worst display I have ever seen. I discovered that if you push the "info" button the display remains on the screen, but I have to cross the room to read it, as the print is still very small. What were they thinking when they designed this display?

Further, other reviews warned that if you were not directly sitting in front of the TV, you saw only black. Having never had that experience before, I took that with a grain of salt. Wrong. The other reviewers are right. If you move even slightly away from the center of the set, all you can see is a black screen. I have no idea why this is the case, but it is true. So, if you plan on using this set where you sit in front of it, with no one else in the room watching from a different angle, it works just great. If multiple people plan on watching together, you might have a problem.

On the positive side, the footprint is sleek and takes little room. The picture is very good (not as awesome as my Sony Bravia) but very clear. The design of the set itself is pleasing and the remote is comfortable to hold and fairly easy to control. You must, however, read the instruction booklet to understand some of the features (e.g. "tools" and the bottom colored buttons. Their use is not immediately obvious.)

Some reviewers criticized the sound as "tinny", and I know what they mean. It is not particularly annoying to me but if you are "into" audio, it might drive you crazy.

Samsung produces a quality product, it will work for my needs, but this TV is not for everyone.

Samsung LN22A650 22-Inch 720p LCD HDTV with RED Touch of Color tv reviews

This was my first Samsung after being a Sony fan for over 20 years and I was not impressed. Auto setup would not recognize digital channels, Samsung said it may have been a bad tuner.

The remote control is by far one of the worst designed and shaped I've ever had. What were the designers thinking?

Otherwise it was a great looking picture.

Amazon service was, as usual, efficient and timely. The Toshiba 22 inch HDTV arrived in perfect condition, and was very easy to set up. The picture quality was better than expected, even for non-HD channels. When HD is available the picture is quite spectacular. For small displays the 720p resolution is quite adequate.

This TV is Perfect for Video Gaming, it has several jacks for video game systems, its very good size for playing video games. It is also at a very good price. If you want to buy a TV for strictly TV watching, I wouldn't suggest this as the picture quality with TV is not as good as other HDTVs.

Although the price is OK and the picture is pretty good, there are a few serious flaws that will make me return this monitor tomorrow.

1. A dead pixel. That should be rare. I haven't had a dead pixel in 6 years on consumer electronics equipment.
2. The speakers are awful, and plugging in an external set of powered speakers to the earphone jack has some weird sound switching problem. I can get the sound to work by resetting the "surround" option or by resetting the entire system altogether, only to have the sound stop working when I change the input source. I'm sure it is connected properly - there is clearly a bug in the device.
3. Start-up time and tuning to digital channels with the built-in tuner is very slow. I've never used a digital built-in tuner before, usually using an external cable converter, so this may be the way it is supposed to be - but I don't like it.
Other than that, the picture quality is fine and it has a nice array of input options, which I like. Built-in scaling seems to work well, and the VGA input is fine. Luckily I already had all of the cables I need, except HDMI - but I'm not using that until I hit the cable company up for a new box.
Overall rating: meh.

Excellent picture quality. Very good sound. Easy to use and read instructions. Can get all the channels in your area.
Great value for the price. I highly recommend this T.V. for any room in the house. If you do not have cable, direct tv, etc., purchase a high quality digital anntena.

Overall, this TV is excellent for what I want of it. I'm not sure what others had in mind when they purchase it, but for my needs, this TV is absolutely perfect doing double-duty as my computer monitor and small bedroom television. It's actually 22", widescreen, and high-definition, with brilliant color, nice design, compact size, hidden speakers (which, somewhat reduces audio quality, but adds to visual appeal), and at least one hook-up for any kind of device you need. As a monitor, it takes my computer to a whole new level, and as a HD television for my Xbox (using a VGA cable), the images are overwhelming at times. For the price, this TV is an excellent purchase, and a great compact television.

However, the one I bought had a single burned out pixel (which I was too lazy to take back and replace with another TV; not that noticeable unless you're watching something that's really dark and are sitting a foot away from the screen); plus, the TV has no tilt or turn ability. Instead, it just comes with a simple, small, rigid stand that locks into the bottom of the TV (however, once again, for my purposes, this really doesn't impact me too much). Also, audio quality is not great when using the TV's speakers, but since I mostly use the TV as a monitor, that once again is not a big deal. The only other thing I'm not thrilled about is the widescreen images seem to not be exactly widescreen; they seem a little short actually, causing circles to appear more as vertically stretched ovals, even when the TV and appropriate devices have been set to display in widescreen. However, the distortion is very slight, and only noticeable if you pay attention.

Overall, for the price, this is a great desktop or small bedroom TV. At 22", being high-definition, a television, and sylish, with all hook-ups on the back, this will be more than worth the value as a computer monitor and TV, especially for those on a budget.

The TV is very nice - I got it for my 18 year old daughter for Christmas. She uses it to play music channels and games on the XBox 360. The sound quality is ok, but becomes degraded when it's turned up louder.
