I've had this tv for under a year. The image retention (IR) is progressively getting worse. At this point, if there is a static graphic on the screen for as short as 3-5minutes, I'll have IR for several minutes after. And yes, I have all the settings that are supposed to deter this problem. Note on page 3 of the manual at the bottom it states that burn-in and IR are NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY!!! Despite not being covered, when I called about the problem, I was referred to the local warranty repair shop and they attempted to fix the problem by replacing the pc boards (not sure exactly which ones). That didn't help at all. Then they took the tv to their shop. After which they informed me that the problem wasn't covered. If it isn't covered why did they even try to fix it to begin with???

I am extremely disappointed with this product.

I ordered this TV through Amazon/ButterflyPhoto. To be honest I was a bit concerned that I would have issues with the delivery. Come to find out, my fears were completely unfounded. I had an excellent experience. I ordered it on a Monday and it was in my living room on Wednesday.

The TV itself is amazing--despite what one other reviewer had to say about it. It comes on the swivel stand, which is rather sturdy and bears the weight of the TV rather well.

The picture is amazing--even on non-high def channels. I had a Sony HDTV prior to this and with this TV it is as if I had never truly seen High Def programming. The non-HD signal on regular digital channels are as good as the HD picture on the Sony and the HD signal on the Samsung is incomparable!

I thought that I would not like the fact that the TV does not have a wide-zoom option for picture size, but it is not an issue. Leaving the TV in 16:9 aspect ratio is fine--it is hardly noticeable.

I wish I had read the review by F. Damico, 18 months ago(of course impossible as it was recently posted). I purchased a 65" HP DLP which I loved as a product....great picture, great sound, etc. Of course, things break..and that's where you look for a company to stand behind it's products.

Well if you are looking at HP and TV's.... I'd look somewhere else! They clearly are not serious about the TV business or their reputation in it, to whit;
1) I have so far made 7 telephone calls to HP. They won't provide a direct access to there TV department , only their HP 1-800 HP INVENT number, no matter how clearly you speak to their IVR system, it inevitably routes you to their PC support center on the other side of the globe...
2) roughly 50% of the time that support center is successful in connecting you with their TV department
3) if out of warranty, you need to purchase a service agreement (for $629)..which I did. HP says they will make three attempts, and if failing to repair the product, they will drop the charge to $369, and of course you are then stuck with a very large boat anchor.
4)HP represented that AT&T was the service provider, which it turns out is not truthful (AT&T turns around and subs that work out to someone else...no company, just individuals from what I can piece together)
5) in the one attempt to repair the TV, in two weeks time, the individual who came out to work on the unit, confided to their sidekick " I've never work on this fancy a unit before", got scared half way through.... put the parts back together...told me he would read up on the TV and be out the next day to finish it.
6) You guessed it...no show, no call...
7) Back to HP (30 mins to get to the support department) at which point they inform me that someone will be out in another two days' time. Won't tell me who, won't narrow it down to a half a day, etc.
8) NEW EDIT 8/28/08 ; You've got the drill by now..... no show on yesterday's service call...no call from HP or the Service tech infoming me of same (I was there the whole day). When I have an hour too waste on the telephone, I will yet again attempt another call.

So, like Mr. Damico, I beg you to save yourself the grief....do not buy an HP TV.

The TV was delivered, un-boxed and checked out by the delivery person.

Works great and as I bonus, I found it is great for watching digital pictures from the USB port and listening to music from a USB memory stick.

Samsung HPT4254 42-Inch Plasma HDTV tv reviews

I've owned this set for about 10 months now, and it never ceases to amaze me with its picture and ease of use. Simply put, it's an outstanding HDTV, especially for the price.

The color is what strikes me first. It's drastically better than almost every LCD set I've come across that's been below $3,000. In general, plasma tv's produce better color output than LCD's, so that in and of itself isn't really surprising. What IS surprising, though, is just how much more vivid a picture this set has than almost all LCD's and plasmas anywhere remotely in and out of its price range. My dad paid twice as much for his 40" LCD 1080p, and all he does is comment on how pretty my tv looks everytime he comes over. Same with a close friend of mine who also owns an LCD that cost more than twice as much. I never realized how beautiful reds, yellows, blues, and greens were until I got this set. Yellow has become my new favorite color, strangely enough, because it looks so bloody brilliant on this set. Bumblebee from Transformers blows my mind every time I watch it. It's absolutely beautiful.

In terms of clarity, it's again a stunning product. Blu-Rays shine on this set, and I'm constantly showing off Transformers and Planet Earth to the delight of my friends. Also, the contrast on this plasma outshines any and all LCD screens I've tried out, too.

I can't comment on the sound because I use my surround sound set-up at all times, but the three or four times I've utilized the factory speakers, they've been fine.

My only major gripe is that the factory remote doesn't have preset buttons for each of the input selections. There's only one button, and you have to cycle through the input types until you reach your desired destination. I ended up purchasing the Harmony One remote which already has those inputs programmed in. Sweet!

The only other concern I have had is screen burn-in, which has happened on occasion. I'm fairly mindful of it and whatever burn-in my tv has received has always worn off after an hour or so, but I imagine if you play video games with HUDs on them for many many hours at a time, this could become an issue. I haven't had any problems with my games (all three of the "next gen" systems look and play great on this thing), but I am not as hardcore a gamer as I used to be.

Overall, this set is dynamically beautiful, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic picture that will wow you and your friends and family for years to come.

This is such a dissapointing TV and the HP service is just the same. Less than 1 month outside of my warranty the TV has died. It's experiencing a phenomenon called "pixel flare". Google it. I'm not the only one. I have no choices as per the rude HP customer service rep (yes, Chase from Ontario Canada- I'm talking about you!) but to fork over almost $750 for a replacement main control board (and pay someone to put it in). Not fair! A $1,500 TV should last more than 1 year. I implore you- don't make this mistake. Step away from the HP- far away!
