Average Customer Rating: 4.5

For people looking to step up to full 1080p resolution in a 46-inch flat-panel LCD, Samsung's 2007 model LNT4661FF is a good choice. Besides offering full 1080p resolution the LNT4661F also features a 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio for rich blacks and subltle texture display, an 8ms response time panel for smooth motion, hidden side speakers, an NTSC tuner, and 3 HDMI ports.

Compared to other Samsung Models
The primary differences between Samsung's LNT4661F and the step-up LNT4665F LCD HDTV is in the contrast ratio and video processing power. The pricier LNT4665F offers a 15,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio compared to this model's 10,000:1 ratio, and also offers full 10bit video processing over this model's 8 bit system. The more expensive model should display finer gradients of shading making for more detail in darker scenes. The video processing difference should ensure smoother motion in fast moving scenes for the LNT4065F.

Video Processing
The Samsung Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) Video Enhancer refines all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNIe improves contrast, white level, picture detail and incorporates digital noise reduction to improve lower quality video inputs. The 3D Y/C digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time to dramatically reduce edge image artifacts while improving transition detail.

Connections

  • HDMI (version 1.3): 3 (1 CEC cabaple)
  • Component video: 2 (Y, Pb, Pr)
  • S-Video input: 1 side/1 rear
  • A/V inputs: 1 side/1 rear
  • PC inout: 1
  • Headphone Jack: 1
  • USB 2.0: 1

Audio Features
High-quality virtual surround sound can be experienced with just the speakers built into the TV. SRS TruSurround XT technology delivers an amazing, simulated 3D effect with clear dialog and powerful bass through hidden side speakers. TruSurround XT audio adds three audio enhancement technologies to produce an amazingly immersive sound experience.

  • Dialog Clarity brings movie dialog into Focus during the playback of any surround-encoded material to make speech much clearer and crisper.
  • TruBass creates incredible deep rich bass allowing a person to perceive significantly deeper, richer low bass tones that are far beyond the physical low frequency capabilities of the speaker itself.
  • The SRS WOW feature widens the soundstage by processing standard two-channel stereo material as well as multi-channel encoded material for a dramatic improvement in the playback of any stereo audio over a two-speaker system.

What's in the box: Samsung LNT4661F 46-inch 1080P LCD TV, remote control, 2 AAA batteries, Power Cord, cleaning cloth, owners manual, warranty card.

So far so good, just got it about a week ago and it looks very nice. Shipping was a pain, as I did free shipping and it took about 2-3 weeks to get it and then I had to take off work to get it delivered but Eagle was held up at a prison due to a random search that took a long time so they missed the 4 hour window and delivered it that night. The person who sets up the delivery gives you a phone number for you to get a hold of them, but it just goes to a machine and they call you back hours later. I had to look for info online and get amazon to call the delivery truck to set up a new time since they missed the delivery window. Very, very inconvenient.

I haven't yet calibrated it, but looking online, I've found avsforum.com to be a very good source of info on calibration and problems associated with these sets and others.

I have the tv mounted above my fireplace (looks nice) with the cords running through the wall out to the entertainment center (12 foot length minimum) so they aren't visible. I was originally going to run everything through a receiver and one cord to the tv but after reading up some more on the tv I found that it can control most of what I need (dvd player, cable box, vcr, etc) through the remote that comes with the tv. So all I need are long cables to make it to the receiver so I can watch my movies through 5.1 surround sound.

You don't need expensive hdmi cables, they're digital and only transmit 0s and 1s so if $10 cables give you a picture, you can be sure the $95 monster cables will give you the exact same picture. That is unless you get into the hdmi version 1.3 or above (1.3a, 1.3b).

You also don't need to get a hdtv antenna, just a regular old antenna or rabbit ears will work fine, I actually am not using anything for an antenna but can still pick up local hd stations over the air.

I chose this one over the lnt4665f due to the screen reflection differences and the windows i have in my room. The real only notable difference is the contrast ratio being only 10000:1 versus 15000:1 on the 4665. That's due to the glass screen itself.

Also remember to keep checking back on the price from day to day during the initial 30 day period of ordering it, I saved $80 just by seeing the price dropping and emailing customer service about it.

I will just echo the sentiment of others here. Don't be hesitant about buying a big ticket item like this online. Amazon was the best deal by far, with free shipping and no sales tax. I used what I saved to pay for the extended warranty. Also the TV itself, is just great. It is my first HDTV, and the picture takes your breath away. Even with a pair of rabbit ears, I got an amazing picture. I've since upgraded to HD from DirecTV and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I was very pleasantly surprised with the picture quality of my non-HD DVD player. Its not even an upconversion model, and the picture is stunning. The non-HD channels even look good, but HD is where its at. I'm still fiddling with the picture controls, since many people say that the factory settings are not optimal, but I'm not sure what optimal is anyway.
Bottom line: Its a great TV at a great price with hassle free purchase and delivery.

First, I want to say thank you Amazon for the best price and service. Where do I start? How can you beat a 30% discount over the retail stores and have home delivery, amazing. Second, I want to thank Best Buy for letting me do hours of viewing and research on all of their TV's. Last of all, I want to thank Samsung for making the most amazing product. The TV is a piece of art. The unbelievable picture with clarity and high black levels makes this a great buy. I researched Plasmas and the LNT 4665. Due to the widely lit room I have, I went with the LNT 4661 and OH MY GOD, no regrets this was a no brainier. P.S. I would also like to thank all of the reviews on CNET, AMAZON and Pricegrabber that helped me make the best decision.
